Not anything new to report, just some updates to the blog and site. First, the URL has changed yet again to thalions.com/blogs/joe, but all the old address automatically redirect to the new address, so you don’t neccessarily have to update your bookmarks. But if you find any links or pictures that are broken because of the URL changes, please leave a comment and let me know and I’ll fix it.
But the more fun news is that I’ve added a photo gallery! You can find the link at the top of this page, or on the link list on the right side, or by clicking here. I will keep the gallery up to date with pictures I take in my travels, and I will still use samples of them in my posts. The gallery already has several albums, including lots more pictures of the city of Munich and more from the rides I did last week.
[warning: entering geek mode] If you’re interested in how the gallery is set up, continue reading - otherwise, enjoy perusing the gallery. As I reported earlier, I switched to Wordpress for my blogging system, because I found some excellent plug-ins. I have also always been a big fan of Gallery for my online photo management, which is what I used for our wedding photo gallery. There is a new version of Gallery out (creatively named Gallery2) that has a whole new backend and is finally database driven. But more importantly, I found another great Wordpress plug-in that integrates a Gallery2 gallery directly into a Wordpress blog, so that’s what I did, and after some configuration difficulties (which led to the new URL configuration, actually) I got it all set up and it works great. What’s more, I found a plug-in for iPhoto (which I use now, on my Mac) where you can resize and upload photos straight into Gallery2 from iPhoto, so I can take pictures, import them into iPhoto, upload to Gallery2 and make a new blog post all in one seamless action!!!! Whew, I’m all geek-ed out for tonight.

geeked out?
Sounds like you’re having an easy time. All kinds of automation and integration between a few apps.
If you want to geek yourself out, you should be doing all of this in BBEdit. By hand. Rewriting the entire codebase each time you add a post.
And is there a way to navigate to this blog from thalions homepage? There definitely should be one, and if there already is, it needs to be more visible - I can’t find it. No need to force people to remember the address if they want to view the blog on a computer other than their home one.
What font are you using? Georgia? It looks good, but it’s a bit of an unorthodox choice. (My favorite at the moment is Garamond - if you want to use that, be sure to bump the text size up a notch; it’s a very small font, but size 14 works well for printed text.)
The inline images are not showing up on my computer, but the gallery works well and looks good.

yeah, the font family is ‘Trebuchet MS’,Georgia, Times, Times New Roman, sans-serif;, so most people wioll see Georgia. I like it too - I didn’t choose it, it was just the default with the theme I chose. It’s the same family Joel uses at Joel on Software, so if he uses it, it’s probably a good choice.
Currently there are no links to this blog from thalions.com. I’ll probably add another block on the front page to our blog pages - maybe in a couple days.
There were some redirection problems with the inline pictures - i think i got it all sorted out.

Inline pictures are working fine again.
It sure is nice being a mere 2¬∫ of separation from Lance. In fact, he and I talked about it at the end of the race today. He says you’re a geek.

oh, and:
“Trebuchet MS‚Äô,Georgia, Times, Times New Roman, sans-serif”
sans-serif?
The text is serifed up one side and down the other. If there were any more serifs then the letters would be the cosmetic addition to the predominant serifs…
or something

that’s just the family, so sans-serif would only show up if you didn’t have trebuchet, georgia, times, or TNR installed

I am sure glad I sent you all those computer
books a few years back……….you both learned so much from them
